As someone preparing to file for bankruptcy, you have both **rights** and **legal obligations**. It’s important to understand these clearly so you can protect yourself and make informed decisions throughout the process.
Your Rights (Click to Expand)
All pre-bankruptcy credit counseling must come from an agency approved by the U.S. Trustee Program. This ensures the counseling is legitimate and compliant with the law.
Your information will not be shared with creditors or credit reporting agencies. Everything discussed in this course is confidential.
Before counseling begins, you are entitled to receive a clear explanation of the agency’s services, fees, and your rights as a participant.
Your Responsibilities (Click to Expand)
To get the most out of this course (and to fulfill legal requirements), you must be honest about your income, expenses, assets, and debts.
To receive your certificate of completion (required for filing), you must complete every lesson and activity in this course.
After completing the course, you are responsible for submitting your certificate of completion to the bankruptcy court within the appropriate timeframe.
Understanding these rights and responsibilities will ensure you get the full benefit of this course — and stay compliant with bankruptcy law.
