Displaced Women & Children
In recent years, homelessness in NY has reached the highest level since the Great Depression of the 1930s, with 70% of shelters making up women & children, and the average length of stay far exceeds a year. That is an astronomical number.
In New Jersey, the number of chronically homeless persons (mostly women & children) has risen by 21.2% over the past 5 years alone.
Women over 50
Women over 50 are the fastest-growing population of people experiencing homelessness in the United States. This number is expected to continue to grow in the coming years as the population of older adults increases.
